Herbs

Borage leaves
These are chewed and eaten. They increase nursing queens' supply of milk, and also brings down a fever.

Burdock root
These are chewed into a pulp which can be applied to rat bites. It can also cure infections.

Catmint
Usually found growing in Twoleg gardens. It is the best remedy for greencough.

Chervil
The juice of the leaves can be used for infected wounds, and chewing the roots helps with bellyaches.

Cobweb
Used to wrap around an injury to soak up the blood, keep the wound clean, and stops bleeding.

Coltsfoot
The leaves are chewed into a pulp, which is eaten to help shortness of breath.

Comfrey
The fat black roots of this plant can be chewed into a poultice to mend broken bones and soothe wounds.

Dock
This plant is similar to sorrel. The leaf can be chewed up and applied to soothe scratches.

Dried Oak leaf
Stops infection.

Feverfew
The leaves can be eaten to cool down body temperature, particularly for cats with chills or fevers.

Goldenrod
This plant is usually chewed up and put in a poultice that is terrific for healing wounds.

Honey
Very difficult to collect without getting stung. Great for soothing infections or sore throats of cats.

Horsetail
The leaves can be used to treat infected wounds, and is usually chewed up and applied as a poultice.

Juniper berries
The berries soothe bellyaches and help cats that have trouble breathing.

Lavender
This plant cures fever.

Marigold
The petals or leaves can be chewed up into a pulp and applied as a poultice to wounds to stop infection.

Mouse bile
Put this on a piece of moss and apply to a tick. Wash your paws really well in running water afterward.

Poppy seed
These are fed to cats to help them sleep and to soothe cats suffering from shock and distress. Usage on nursing queens is not recommended.

Stinging nettles

The spiny green seeds can be given to a cat who's swallowed poison, and the leaves can be applied to a wound to bring down swelling.

Snakeroot
Used to counter poison

Tansy
Used to cure coughs, but must be eaten in small doses. NEVER give to an expecting queen as she will miscarriege from shock.

Thyme
This plant can be eaten to calm anxiety and frayed nerves.

Watermint
Usually chewed into a pulp then fed to a cat with a bellyache.

Wild Garlic
Rolling in a patch of this can help prevent infection, especially for dangerous wounds like rat bites.

Yarrow
The leaves of this plant can be made into a poultice and applied to wounds or scratches, or fed to a cat to expel poisons.

Warning!

Nightshade
This has no medicinal value; it is very poisonous.

Holly Berries
This has medicinal value; they are poisonous like deathberries.

Deathberries
Red berries that can be fatally poisonous to kits and elders. These are NOT medicine. Avoid these

PostSubject: ~Ceremonies~   Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:49 pm

Ceremonies

Traditional Clan Greeting
This is said at the beginning of all ceremonies or announcements. The leader will place him/herself on the Highrock/Highledge to start the meeting.

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under High Branch for a Clan meeting."

Note: During emergencies Clan greetings may be shorter as every moment is vital.

Deputy Ceremony
"The time has come to appoint a new deputy. I say these words before StarClan, that the spirits of our ancestors may hear and approve my choice. __________ will be the new deputy."

Warrior Ceremony
"I, _____star, leader of _____Clan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. S/he has trained hard to under stand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him/her to you as a warrior in his/her turn. _____paw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do."

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name: _____paw, from this moment on you will be known as _________. StarClan honors your _____ and your _____ and we welcome you as a full warrior of _____Clan."

Virtues
When become a warrior the leader says, "StarClan honors your ______ and your ______ and...." These are what fill in the blanks.

Determination
Enthusiasm
Independence
Strength
Spirit
Honesty
Patience
Forethought
Loyalty
Intelligence
Faith

Apprentice Ceremony
"From this day forward, until he/she has earned his/her warrior name, this apprentice will be called _____paw. ______, _________________________________. May you pass down all you know to this your apprentice."

Note: During the long blanks, the leader says who the mentor of the apprentice is, and says a sentence or two about the mentors skills, virtues, etc. Usually kept brief.

Dying Apprentice Ceremony
"I ask my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He/She has learned the warrior code and has given up his/her life in service of his/her Clan. Let StarClan recieve him/her as a warrior. His/Her name will be __________, because _________. Let StarClan recieve him/her by the name of __________.

Note: This is said when an apprentice that is almost old enough to be a warrior dies/is expected to die before he/she becomes one. This was used in Brightheart/Lostface's case.

Elder Ceremony
"___________, is it your wish to give up the name of warrior and go join the elders?"

"It is."

"Your Clan honors you and all the service you have given us. I call upon StarClan to give you many seasons of rest."

Note: Sometimes the warrior name of the cat is changed to suit new features. See Name-Change Ceremony.

Medicine Cat Ceremony
(Medicine Cat) "_______________, is it your wish to enter into the mysteries of StarClan as a medicine cat?"

"It is."

"Then come forward. Warriors of StarClan, I present to you this apprentice. She has chosen the life of medicine cat. Grant her your wisdom and insight so that she may understand your ways and heal her Clan in accordance to your will."

(medicine cats touch nose to Moonstone/Moonpool)

Name-Change Ceremony
"Spirits of StarClan, you know every cat by name. I ask you now to take away the name from the cat you see before you, for it no longer stands for what he/she is. By my authority as Clan leader, and with the approval of our warrior ancestors, I give this cat a new name. From this moment on, he/she will be known as _______. We honor his/her ______ and ______."

Note: See Warrior Ceremony "Virtues" to fill in last two blanks.

PostSubject: ~Fighting Moves~   Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:52 pm

Fighting Moves

Back kick
Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent's distance from you carefully; then lash out with your back legs, taking your weight on your front paws.

Belly rake
A fight-stopper. Slive with unsheathed claws across soft flesh of opponent's belly. If you're pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back in control.

Front paw blow
Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent's head. Claws sheathed.

Front paw strike
Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the body or face of your opponent. Claws unsheathed.

Killing bite
A death blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes considered dishonorable (see Warrior Code). Used only as a last resort.

Leap-and-hold
Ideal for a small cat facing a large opponent. Spring onto opponent's back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyong the range of your opponent's paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior in this way. It was deployed to great effect against BloodClan's deputy, Bone. Watch for the drop-and-roll countermove, and try to jump free before you get squashed.

Partner fighting
Warriors who have trained and fought together will often instinctively fall into a paired defensive position, each protecting the other's back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.

Play dead
Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in an attacking position.

Scruff shake
Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponent's neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, which are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.

Teeth grip
Target your opponent's extremities—the legs, tail, scruff, or ears—and sink in your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight.

Upright lock
Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring full weight down on opponent. If opponent does same, wrestle and flip him under you. This move makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so requires great strength and speed.

Warrior Code

1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory.

3. Elders, Queens, and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.

5. A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.

6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.

7. A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.

8. The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires.

9. After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.

10. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.

11. Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

12. No warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, even if the kit is from a different Clan.

13. The word of the Clan leader is law.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his/her battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.
